The Massachusetts Department of Housing & Community Development is committed to supporting the neighborhoods of Massachusetts in order to benefit its citizens. They provide advice and counseling for quality, secure housing across a variety of platforms. By coordinating and overseeing community planning and development the Mass DHCD is able to maximize the effectiveness of housing resources. Bond measures lead to public funding which allows a much needed influx of currency into these avenues during a time of great housing crises. The Department also controls a number of federal and state funds for rental assistance programs.

DHCD’s Massachusetts Downtown Initiative (MDI) offers a range of services and assistance to communities seeking help on how to revitalize their downtowns. The primary mission of the MDI is to make downtown revitalization an integral part of community development in cities and towns across the Commonwealth. MDI’s guiding principles are that the most effective approach to downtown revitalization is a holistic one; that it addresses economic and community development needs; and that it provides a framework of interrelated activities that promote positive change in a downtown to keep it healthy and prosperous.
