Minnesota Housing provides the chance for low and middle income families and individuals to obtain warm, secure housing at a reasonable cost. They do so by offering low interest loans and working with housing communities to ensure a good fit for those who need homeowner or rental assistance. They also offer incentives for home repair and improvement projects leading to greener buildings and lower associated energy costs. Last but not least Minnesota Housing is committed to fighting the problem of homelessness in our communities and has a number of programs designed to assist them.
Funding awards of more than $96 million were announced today by Minnesota Housing that will result in 3,034 affordable housing units throughout the state. The awards will advance foreclosure remediation efforts and further state housing priorities of financing new and preserving existing affordable housing, ending long-term homelessness, and increasing emerging market homeownership. “This announcement brings the total number of supportive housing opportunities funded to 2,479.
That’s more than half of our goal to create 4,000 new supportive housing opportunities as part of the Business Plan to End Long-Term Homelessness,” said Mike Finch, Chair of the Minnesota Housing Board of Directors. “The awards reflect current housing trends, including strategic land acquisition to provide financing to encourage communities to meet their affordable housing needs, including help for areas affected by foreclosure.”
